OFFLINE_CUT is an exhibition that addresses the question of seeking a painterly path and speaks to the need to return to the physical essence of the image. At a time when the visual world is dissolving ever faster into digital space, generated lines, and the ingratiating smoothness of screens, Filip Černý chooses a contrary stance: back to matter, to the cut, to the tension created by the resistance of an unyielding material, to craftsmanship and direct bodily contact. The exhibition title—a term denoting a rough film edit without effects—refers not only to film jargon but also to a radical gesture: the interruption of endless virtual illusion, the moment when the image simultaneously becomes both imaginative and material reality, here and now.
